"Most of the exhibitors are collectors, so all these beautiful bugs from around the world, are the kind of stuff you never see. It's quite amazing." Some of the features include an insect petting zoo, book and jewelry sales and the opportunity to taste some of the edible insects. The insect fair will also hold Madagascar Hissing Cockroach races where participants may enter their own cockroach to race for 50 cents. "People come back year after year because little kids are way into it," Kaae said. "They can buy bugs to put in their collections, like scorpions, giant millipedes that are longer than 12 inches and tarantulas that people keep as pets." Children two and under are admitted free. 11am-7pm - Jamie Isenstein exhibit ($5)
"This way to the Egress," read a sign commonly found near a door in P.T. Barnum's travelling exhibitions. Those curious enough to make their way through this door found themselves suddenly locked outside (egress being a fancy term for 'exit') and of course, they'd have to pay again for re-entry. In this way, not unlike the fabled cat, curiosity was rewarded. Jamie Isenstein's new exhibit at the Hammer plays with this conceit, portraying double and triple entendres in her work. This time, we think, curiosity will get its comeuppance. http://www.hammer.ucla.edu Hammer Museum 10899 Wilshire Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90024 310-443-7000

ASSSSCAT, the Upright Citizens Brigade's improv juggernaut that has played to critical acclaim and sold out audiences in New York City for the past nine years, has landed in Los Angeles. So what exactly is ASSSSCAT? Well, it starts with a group of improv comedians currently working in film and television taking the stage accompanied by a special guest monologist. Some guest monologists are talented celebrities, others are screwed up weirdoes. Either way, they usually have great stories to tell. We take a suggestion from the audience, then the show begins. The special guest shares off-the-cuff thoughts, feelings, and personal remembrances inspired by the suggestion. The improvisers in turn use this impromptu monologue as fodder for a series of high octane, balls-to-the-wall improvised sketches that have made this show one of the longest running improv shows in the history of the world. call for time - Welcome to Hell...Photography by Drew Blood
"Welcome to Hell" is a photography show. That much is easy, however, getting the photos was not. The 32 photographs in this show are "magic" (not Earving Johnson, but magic none the less). For his entire residency in Los Angeles, Drew Blood has been snapping pictures and popping flashes like a hyperactive child with a roll of bubble wrap. Six years and thousands of photos later, he felt is was time to go through them, a daunting task to say the least. Themes began to emerge: cars, graffiti, weirdos… Things that we come across every day in the city began to lay out a patterns of the life, energy and views that we (un)willingly subject ourselves to as residents of this quasi-utopia. http://www.aplacecalledunitard.com/welcome.html 206 E. 1st St. Los Angeles , CA 90012 213-926-5034

call for time - Elena Monzo - "Inside" (free)
We were all caught up in several galleries in Chinatown when we happened on Elena Monzo's exhibition of new works. After seeing all the pop-contempo nonsense at the neighboring galleries, it was refreshing to see clear craftsmanship in her large, wall-installed illustrations. While the subject matter might not be for everyone (it's a bit graphic in a playful kind of way) we were delighted to see someone showing discernible signs of artistic skill. http://www.bonellicontemporary.com 936 Mei Ling Way Los Angeles, CA 90012 213-793-1291

***call for time - Dining in the DARK...pitch black. ($99)
Dining in the Dark is a concept that quickly gained buzz in LA in a series of special events. Now a regular weekend event at the Hyatt, it provides guests with an opportunity to do just what it says: eat in the pitch black. This is a three-course meal staffed by sight-impaired servers who are quite used to working without seeing with their eyes. The point is for guests to experience the same sensations and experience food only through taste, smell, and touch. And we hear crunchy foods are regularly incorporated. http://www.opaque-events.com Hyatt West Hollywood 8401 W. Sunset Blvd. West Hollywood, CA 90069
